Dates of Scientific Work

It is contrary to the policy of Physical Review and Physical Review Letters to mention the date when scientific work was actually done or communicated informally (as opposed to when it was published). Such dates might be interpreted as claims to priority in advance of publication. Experimental runs should be distinguished by arbitrary numbers rather than dates.

Exceptions must be made, of course, for dates that are themselves scientific data, as in the identification of astronomical events.
