Phys. Rev. C 72, 054320 (2005) [6 pages]Measurement of E2 transition strengths in 32,34MgReceived 19 May 2005; published 30 November 2005 The degree of collectivity in the neutron-rich nuclei 32Mg and 34Mg has been determined via intermediate-energy Coulomb excitation in inverse kinematics. Measured energies of the first excited 2+ states and reduced electric quadrupole transition probabilities B(E2;0g.s.+→21+) are presented for 32Mg and 34Mg. The results agree with previous measurements and confirm the placement of both nuclei within the “island of inversion.” © 2005 The American Physical Society URL:
