In shell model calculations for the yrast even-spin states of 50Cr, the static quadrupole moments of the low-spin states 21+, 41+, 61+, and 81+ are negative but those of the high-spin states 101+, 121+, and 141+ are positive. Yrast states with even spins greater than the single j shell limit, Jmax=14, again have negative quadrupole moments. © 1996 The American Physical Society.
