The ground state Q value of the reaction 58Ni(p, π-)59Zn has been measured with Ep=190 MeV. The measured Q value was -144.735(40) MeV and the cross section at 30 deg was found to be 0.080(20) nb/sr. Also measured was the low-lying level structure of 59Zn and an upper limit on the reaction cross section for 40Ca(p, π-) going to the ground state of 41Ti. The measured mass of 59Zn was used to study Coulomb energy systematics.

NUCLEAR REACTIONS 58Ni(p, π-)59Zn, 40Ca(p, π-)41Ti, Ep=190 MeV; measured 59Zn mass, low-lying energy levels; calculated ft values, σ. Studied Coulomb energy systematics.
